Namaskaar !

The consumer cooperatives work at four different levels in India – National, State, District and Taluka. The National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd (NCCF) with its H.Q. in Delhi is the apex federation of the consumer cooperatives in the country. In Maharashtra, The Maharashtra State Cooperative Consumers’ Federation Ltd (MSCCF) is the state-level apex body for all consumer cooperatives in the state. Under MSCCF, there are District Central Cooperative depots in every district and Primary Cooperative Depots at Taluka-level.

Established in 1964, MSCCF today operates through 8 divisional offices at District-level. It also runs a chain of multipurpose supermarkets under the brand name ‘Apna Bhandar’’. MSCCF has always been on the forefront of consumer cooperative movement in the state. Its prime objective is to provide the consumer cooperatives in Maharashtra all essential commodities appropriately measured and at right price.

The MSCCF and its member consumer cooperatives contribute to the consumer cooperative movement in various ways.

The MSCCF strives to prevent exploitation of consumers by monitoring the markets with the help of its member consumer cooperatives. When there is shortage of essential commodities in the open market, MSCCF with the help of the State Government arranges for the supply at reduced rates through its consumer cooperatives.

The MSCCF supplies essential commodities to the Anganwadi projects, Women Hostels and Child hostels under the State Women and Child Department as well as to the Hostels for Backward Classes run by the Social Justice Department. The Federation also supplies groceries to the students of primary and secondary school in 24 districts for the Mid-day meal scheme. The MSCCF has also been entrusted to provide groceries, stationary items and quality medicines to the Medical/Dental Colleges and allied hospitals governed by the State Medical Education and Drugs Department. The necessary groceries, foodstuff and other commodities required for hostels run by the State Tribal Department are also supplied by the Federation. This could give you a broader picture of the larger scope of work of MSCCF.

In a nutshell, we work wholeheartedly wherever there is need for a reliable and cost-effective facilitation and service by the Government. We don’t boast on our accomplishments; however, I would like to mention that we have always contributed to the Government public schemes. And we are proud of our role in the State cooperative movement.
